Launches from

The 24 foot panga at Punta Lobos is a working Pacific boat. It carries three guests. It launches straight off the sand through the surf at Punta Lobos, about an hour north of Cabo San Lucas on Highway 19. If you want to fish the Pacific side out of Todos Santos with a small group, this is the boat for it.

A working panga on the Pacific side

This is a 24 foot panga. A panga is an open boat with a high bow and a simple hull. It is the boat commercial fishermen on this coast have used for decades, and they use it because it works. There is no cabin. Do not count on shade. Bring a hat, a long sleeve shirt and sunscreen, and bring a dry bag if you care about your phone.

What you get for that simplicity is a boat that comes off the beach fast and puts you in Pacific water a few minutes from where you parked. There is no long run out of a marina and no waiting on traffic in a harbour.

Three guests, and that is the number

Guest capacity is three. That is the fishing number and it is not one we stretch. Three anglers on a 24 foot open boat have room to work. Four do not. If your group is four or more, look at the 27 foot Super Panga La Ruca or one of the sportfishers instead.

Split charters are rarely run at Indigo Adventures. When you book this panga you are booking the whole boat. You will not turn up on the beach and meet two strangers who bought the other seats. Your group, your captain, your day.

The beach launch at Punta Lobos

There is no marina at Punta Lobos. The boats launch off the sand, straight through the Pacific surf, and they come back in the same way. The captains here do it every week and it is normal work for them. It is also wet, physical and loud. You need to be able to get in and out of a boat on a moving beach.

Punta Lobos sits below Todos Santos, roughly an hour north of Cabo San Lucas by road on Highway 19. If you are staying down in the Cabo area, plan that drive into your morning. Departure times are still being confirmed and trip durations are still being confirmed. Ask us and we will give you a meeting point and a time.

No dogs, no babies, no infants

Two hard rules on the Punta Lobos pangas. No dogs. No babies or infants.

This is not us being awkward. It is a surf beach launch on an open boat. There is no safe place to put a dog and no safe place to put an infant while the boat is punching out through a breaking wave. It is not a suitable environment for either one. If that rules out your group, tell us early and we will point you at a boat that leaves from a dock.

What is aboard and what you sort out yourself

Water, ice and snacks are normally aboard. Some trips include lunch and alcohol. Which trips those are is still being confirmed, so ask when you book.

Mexican fishing licences are not included in the price. Every angler buys their own. We will help you get them sorted before the trip so it stays paperwork and does not become a problem on the beach.

You can take your catch home. Expert filleting, vacuum sealing and freezing are available, so the fish travels.

Beginners are welcome. Say so when you book and the captain will set you up. Rod and reel rental is available. For spearfishing, most guests bring their own gear. Some rental is available, and we provide lead and floats so you do not have to fly with them.

A 50% deposit is normal to hold a date. Rates are still being confirmed.

Who should pick a different boat

Be honest about the day you want, because the wrong boat is a long morning.

  • More than three guests. This is the wrong boat. Take La Ruca or a sportfisher.
  • A long offshore day chasing marlin. Take the 33 foot Don Pancho or the 35 foot El Wahoo King.
  • A dog, a baby or an infant in the group. Book something that leaves from a dock in Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo.
  • Anyone who cannot manage getting into a boat in the surf.
  • Whale watching as the main event. The 28 foot catamaran La Morita is the steadier platform.

What this panga does well is Pacific side fishing out of Todos Santos, with two or three people, close to the beach, without a lot of ceremony.

Read the full FAQ
Where is Indigo Adventures based, and where do trips leave from?
+

Indigo Adventures is based in El Pescadero, on the Pacific side of Baja California Sur, a few minutes south of Todos Santos. Boats launch from three points: Punta Lobos beach in Todos Santos, San Jose del Cabo, and the Cabo San Lucas Marina. Which boat runs your trip decides where you meet us.

What kinds of trips do you run?
+

Custom fishing and spearfishing charters, freediving excursions, whale watching from mid December to April, and kayaking. Every trip is built around your group, your dates and the conditions rather than a fixed timetable, and almost every one goes out private.

How does booking work?
+

Book online on the Book Now page, where availability is live and a 50 percent deposit holds the date. If you would rather we picked the trip, send an enquiry with who is coming, when you are here and what you want out of the day, and we will say which trip fits and which one does not.

Is a Mexican fishing licence included?
+

No. Everyone fishing in Mexican waters needs a Mexican sportfishing licence, and each angler buys their own. We help you arrange it before the day so nobody is sorting paperwork on the dock. The same licence covers rod and spear.

Do you run shared or split charters?
+

Rarely. Almost every trip goes out as a private boat for you and your group. If a split makes sense for a small party we will say so when you enquire.

How many people fit on a boat?
+

Three on the 24 foot Punta Lobos panga, up to four on La Ruca and La Morita, and up to six on Don Pancho and El Wahoo King. Whale watching numbers run a little higher because nobody is swinging a rod.

Can I keep what I catch?
+

Yes. The catch goes home with you. Filleting at the dock, vacuum sealing and freezing are available, and most guests fly home with a cooler. Marlin are mostly released, with judgement on the day.

Are beginners welcome?
+

Yes, on fishing days. The crew rigs and handles the gear and hands you the rod when something eats. Guided spearfishing needs breath-hold experience and runs on a strict buddy system, which is the only legal way to spearfish in Mexico. Water, ice and snacks are normally aboard.
